Caribbean Latin American Action (CLAA) is a private, independent organization that promotes private sector-led economic development in the Caribbean Basin and throughout the Hemisphere. The organization serves its goal of facilitating trade and investment by stimulating a constructive dialogue between the private and public sectors to improve the policy and regulatory environments for business on both the international and local level. The organization conducts policy-oriented programs in sectors such as financial services, transportation, energy, agriculture, apparel, intellectual property rights, tourism, telecommunications, and information technology.
CLAA today is playing a major role in the FTAA process, mobilizing business and political leadership to advance the economic reforms and Hemispheric free trade pledged at the 1994 Summit of the Americas. The organization is committed to the implementation of a free trade agreement with the Caribbean Basin, the first step being the negotiation of a U.S. – Central American Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA)
CLAA is also host to the Annual Miami Conference on the Caribbean & Latin America, the premier gathering of its kind that brings together senior public and private sector leaders from the Hemisphere, including Heads of State to discuss trade, economic and policy issues in the Americas. This year’s Conference is scheduled for December 8-11, 2003 at the Loews Miami Beach.
Head quarteres in Washington, D.C., CLAA is governed by an international Board of Trustees and funded primarily by contributions from companies with a direct or indirect stake in the region’s prosperity. CLAA is a non-profit, non-governmental charitable organization incorporated in 1980 under the laws of the District of Columbia.
